New chefs and 45 soups at the return of Empty Bowls

bowl of soupAfter a hiatus due to the pandemic, the annual Empty Bowls Dinner returns this year to raise awareness of the roughly 1 in 8 people in our region who struggle to keep food on the table. All proceeds from this simple but delicious meal of soup and bread will be used to reduce hunger in our region.

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest will co-host the Empty Bowls Dinner on Sunday, March 27, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Rodef Shalom in Oakland.

New this year: three different seating times with lower capacity at each to maximize the space among guests. There are also strict COVID guidelines in place. Please note: the separate to-go-only options for each seating are now all sold out.

And of course, you’ll get to eat some delicious soup cooked up by some of Pittsburgh’s great chefs. Dozens of Pittsburgh restaurants and caterers are donating several hundred gallons of soup, which will be served up with yummy Breadworks rolls. There will also be cookies from Giant Eagle and delicious Millie’s ice cream!

A wide variety of soups will be offered at the event, including Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Tomato Fennel Cream, Potato and Bacon, as well as the classics. We encourage you to try many delicious options from our generous partners. You may go through the line multiple times during your seating time.

New to the event this year are:

Andora Restaurant
Azorean Cafe
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh
Dagny’s Eatery
