Hunger and economic injustice are caused by political choices. Big corporations and wealthy individuals wield massive influence over those choices.

Meanwhile the people most affected are too often left out of the political process entirely, deprived of information and engagement with the elected officials and government bodies that are supposed to represent them.

Just Harvest’s Action Against Hunger Team meets monthly to discuss how the decisions of legislators and other officials at all levels of government affect hunger and poverty in our communities. We work together to develop plans for meeting with key leaders and decision-makers, for staging actions, and for educating the public in order to hold government accountable and improve all of our lives.

This coming Saturday, June 24th, the focus of our meeting will be efforts underway in the state and federal government to pass grossly irresponsible and unfair budgets. We will discuss how we can support plans to 1) fix our upside-down tax systems, and 2) block brutal funding cuts that would devastate working families, seniors, veterans, and those with disabilities.

  • Do you or someone you know benefit from food stamps, home heating assistance, or Medicaid?
  • Do you know parents that receive the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit, two of the most effective anti-poverty programs for working families in the country?
  • Who do you know that is enjoying a better life thanks to Pennsylvania’s health and human services?

We will share our stories and concerns about what cuts to these and many other vital investments would mean to our communities. And we will take action together that very afternoon to make clear to our elected officials that they have a responsibility to protect our well-being.

Come to our Action Against Hunger Team meeting this Saturday, June 24!

Join us from 3-5pm at our South Side office. All concerned adults in Allegheny County are welcome at these meetings and to join the team. We share a meal together and free childcare is available upon request.

Interested in coming? Please register.

And please invite anyone you know who wants to stand up for basic economic fairness and improve under-resourced communities.
