The annual Empty Bowls Dinner serves up a simple but delicious meal of soup and bread as a reminder of the roughly 1 in 8 people throughout our region who are facing hunger.
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest will co-host the 22nd Annual Empty Bowls Dinner from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (with two different seating times) on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Rodef Shalom in Oakland.
Attendees favorite part of this event? Well there are the great kids activities from the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Mike the Balloon Guy, the ceramic bowl they get to select from among thousands made by local artisans and students, and the chance to meet new dining companions all there for a great cause.
But at the top of that list is a chance to eat some delicious soup, cooked up by some of the city’s great chefs, and dished out by local celebrities.
More than three dozen Pittsburgh restaurants and caterers are donating several hundred gallons of soup, which will be served up with yummy Breadworks rolls. New to the event this year are:
Keith Fuller (formerly of Root 174) will continue his support of this event with a soup from his new downtown restaurant Pork & Beans. And E2 is continuing their support through their new outfit, Black Radish Kitchen.
A wide variety of soups will be on offer at the event, including unusual selections such as Artichoke and Almond (from Spanish restaurant Morcilla) or Jalapeno, White Cheddar, and Broccoli (from Kaya) and the ever-favorite Chicken Noodle. This year the Food Bank’s nutrition team will also be creating an exclusive soup for this event only!
We encourage you to try many delicious options from our generous partners. You can enjoy two types of soup per line visit and may go through the line multiple times during your seating time.
More soups than you can get to? Soup-to-Go will be for sale during the entire event. Prices are $6 /12oz. and $9 /16 oz. containers. (An extra $1 for a large container of the Food Bank’s Tuscan Bean can provide five meals to our neighbors in need!)
Check below for the list of soups available at each seating. Note that some soups will be available at both seating times.
Soups marked with a * will also be available for sale to-go, where you can also purchase Five Points Artisan Bakery’s sourdough loaves and Rolling Pepperoni’s pepperoni rolls!
Soups available to-go only: Kosher Pea Soup (Deena’s Dishes Catering), Cream of Mushroom Soup (Legume Bistro), and Soup aux Choux (Paris 66).
All proceeds will jointly benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest.
Join us at the event on Sunday, March 20!
