As part of the Art in the Airport program, local schools helped deck the halls this holiday season by decorating trees in the ticketing area of the Pittsburgh International Airport. The public can vote for their favorite holiday tree, and the winner will receive a cash award.
Please VOTE for the Pittsburgh Gifted Center’s “HELPING HANDS” Holiday Tree. Their tree showcases the contributions they have made to local anti-hunger efforts. The students have pledged to donate their award to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
For the past seven years, Pittsburgh Gifted Center students and their families have produced hundreds of ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowls dinner. This dinner is an annual fundraiser for Just Harvest and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the ceramic bowls are given to the patrons who attend that event. They are symbolic of the empty bowls that are in the homes of the one in seven of our neighbors who are facing financial hardship and hunger.
The 2015 Empty Bowls will mark the 20th anniversary of this wonderful event. It will take place on March 20. Tickets will be on sale through Just Harvest and the Food Bank in January.
In addition to supporting Empty Bowls, Pittsburgh Gifted Center has hosted a Food Drive at its annual Harvest Festival. This October, students collected 165 pounds of food items.
Please VOTE for their themed tree “Helping Hands” (You can vote more than once!! Keep voting!! And spread the word!!)
There will be awards for the 3 BEST TREES.
