2023 Empty Bowls event comes at a time of rising need

a bowl of Zucchini Sausage Vegetable Pasta Soup via Steven Depolo/flickrThis marks the 27th annual Empty Bowls Dinner to raise awareness of the roughly 1 in 7 people in our region who are struggling to keep food on the table. These numbers are predicted to rise due to ongoing inflation and the end of extra emergency food stamp this month.

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest will co-host Empty Bowls on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rodef Shalom in Oakland. All proceeds from this simple but delicious meal of soup and bread will be used to reduce hunger in our region.

You’ll get to eat some delicious soup cooked up by some of Pittsburgh’s great chefs. Dozens of Pittsburgh restaurants and caterers are providing several hundred gallons of soup, which will be served up with yummy Breadworks rolls. There will also be cookies from Giant Eagle and delicious Millie’s Homemade ice cream!

A wide variety of soups will be offered at the event, from Feijoda (Brazilian black bean stew) to Tinola (Filipino chicken broth) to Italian Wedding. We encourage you to try many delicious options from our generous partners; you may go through the line more than once during your seating time.

New to the event this year are:

Casa Brasil
Cinderlands Warehouse
Everyday’s a Sunday
The Abbey on Butler Street
The Porch at Siena

Three different seating times will maximize the space among guests. Check below for the list of soups available at each seating.
