Every year at Pittsburgh’s Empty Bowls dinner, hundreds gather for a modest communal meal of soup and bread. The handmade ceramic bowl that each attendee gets to take home serves as a reminder of the people in our region whose bowls so often go empty.
This fundraiser to help the anti-hunger work of Just Harvest and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is made by possible by the kindness and creativity of some of the city’s top chefs. Thanks to them there will be dozens of soups on hand – running the gamut from the tried and true Chicken Noodle to much more adventurous concoctions – and fresh-baked artisan bread from BreadWorks to go with, as well as treats for the kids.
This year, newcomers Morcilla and The Vandal, two of the newest fabulous restaurants in Lawrenceville, are donating delicious creations. The neighborhood favorite Pino’s of Point Breeze is new to the soup table this year as well.
And in a new twist, the Food Bank will not just be co-hosting but cooking too! Their nutrition experts have devised a tasty vegan and gluten-free creation: Tuscan Bean.
If there’s more than one here that you want to try, don’t worry – there will be plenty of soup-to-go options! What a yummy way to help the fight against hunger.
Join us at the event on Sunday, March 20!
