A new Annie E. Casey Foundation report (Kids Count) finds that Pennsylvania isn’t doing right by kids. Pennsylvania is now ranked 18th for child well-being, down from 16th two years ago. Child poverty in Allegheny County has grown since 2008.
This is no time for Pennsylvania legislators to starve the state. Will they get their priorities straight for this year’s budget?
Will they fully fund human services, education, and child care for low-income families? Or will it be another year of failing our kids?
With the June 30th budget deadline rapidly approaching, we and our Pennsylvania’s Choice campaign partners are holding a Budget Day of Action on Monday, June 27th, and we’re asking you to let your state senator and representative know how you feel about the state budget.
We’re doing this with events and activities around the state, and we’re also doing this using telephones and social media.
4 ways you can be a part of Monday’s Day of Action:
- Please pledge TODAY to call your legislators on Monday – more information about how to reach them and what to say will be emailed to you when the Day of Action arrives.
- Join Just Harvest in at Freedom Corner in the Hill on Monday at 12:30 for a Get Real Rally with Consumer Health Coalition and other local organizations. (Contact our community organizer Helen Gerhardt if you’d like a ride.)
- Join our allies in Glenshaw between 4:30-7:00 for an informational picket to reach out to residents of Shaler.
- And please sign up now for the social media Thunderclap using Twitter, Facebook, and/or Tumblr. You can learn more about it here.
There is much at stake for you, your community, and all Pennsylvanians, so please join us in sending a strong message to our elected officials.
