Protest about welfare office closure plans turns to victory rally in McKeesport

The state Department of Public Welfare’s decision not to close its East Liberty assistance office nor consolidate it with those in McKeesport or New Kensington turned scheduled protests Tuesday into victory rallies.

“The governor … felt very strongly about us having an office there,” DPW spokeswoman Kait Gillis said Tuesday.
