We were surprised by your recent editorial’s limited view of the city considering legislation to guarantee paid sick days, which you assert are “a perk, not a right” because they are not called for by the federal or state government (“Not the City’s Call: Employers Should Decide Their Sick-Leave Policies,” July 15).
This nation has a rich history of municipal governments taking the lead on issues of social and economic justice, paving the way for progressive change at a state and/or national level: gay marriage, raising the minimum wage and — in Philadelphia and other cities across the United States — paid sick leave, to name just a few current examples….
