In season: Farmers market ‘bonus bucks’

In its continuing push to give more people access to fresh, local food, Just Harvest is offering to recipients of food stamps — that is, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits — “Fresh Access Bonus Bucks” to spend at several area farmers markets.

The “Action Against Hunger” nonprofit’s Fresh Access coordinator, Emily Schmidlapp, says the incentive program works like this: For every $5 in SNAP benefits a shopper spends at participating markets, they’ll receive an additional $2 to spend on fruits and veggies there….
