Every month we discuss a key policy issue that’s causing hunger and economic injustice in Allegheny County. Then we write letters to government officials and newspapers, calling for change.
This month’s focus: Protect Access to SNAP!
Yet another Trump proposal would hugely increase hunger and hardship by cutting SNAP benefits by a total of $4.5 billion over five years. The proposal would restrict states’ ability to set their own heating and cooling standard utility allowances, thereby changing how states take a household’s utility costs into account when determining food stamp benefit amounts. This would cut food stamps for 1 in 5 American households and more than half of Pennsylvania families.
The 60-day USDA public comment period for people to officially oppose this policy change has begun and ends December 2. At this event we’ll discuss the proposal and help attendees submit their comments. All you need to bring is a willingness to use the power of written words and share your perspective of how this new rule would affect you or your community.
A light meal will be provided starting at 6. Free parking is available in the building’s lot accessed from Fort Pitt Blvd.
Your advance registration will ensure we have enough food and materials for all attendees.
