January 11, 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

people making clay bowls

January is poverty awareness monthJanuary is Poverty Awareness Month so we have put together a number of easy ways for you to take action this month to help fight poverty. They’ll include opportunities to learn more about poverty and hunger in our region and the U.S., and to spread the word.

TODAY’S ACTION:

Empty Bowls - a community meal to help fight hungerOn Sunday, March 2, Just Harvest and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host the 19th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. The proceeds of this event will help fight hunger in the region.

In the weeks leading up to the event, local arts and community groups and schools – as well as the general public – participate by making and donating handmade clay bowls for the event.

Today the Sweetwater Center for the Arts is providing two such bowlmaking opportunities. A Sweetwater instructor will be on hand to assist those with no prior experience, and both wheel-throwing and hand-building options are available.  Clay is included with registration fee, and all bowls created will be left at the Center to be glazed and donated to Just Harvest.

Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. Walk-ins are welcome.
Session 1: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Session 2: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Members: $3/Non-members: $5 covers cost of clay

To register, call: 412-741-4405
