In honor of MLK Day

January 20, 2014

quote from Matin Luther King, Jr.
Fifty years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. organized what is now known as the Great March on Washington. Few remember that the march’s original title was the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

We haven’t forgotten.

Today the Federal minimum wage of $7.25 is worth less than it was when King and hundreds of thousands of others marched to raise it.

To honor King’s efforts and to support current national and state legislative efforts to raise the minimum wage, we have launched an online petition to raise the minimum wage.

One way to get more involved with the fight to raise the minimum wage right here in Pittsburgh is to attend an event today organized by the PA Interfaith Impact Neighborhood. This action and retreat will focus on UPMC – the need for Pittsburgh’s largest employer to pay a living wage and and their fair share in taxes:

PIIN’s Love Thy Neighbor Prayer Vigil
Monday, Jan. 20 @ 10 am
UPMC Presbyterian hospital at 5th Ave and Atwood

Here’s more info on this action and the retreat to follow.
