Empty Bowls Throw Down

February 1, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Empty Bowls Throw Down

Empty Bowls Throw DownOn Sunday, March 29, Just Harvest and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host the 20th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. The proceeds of this event will help fight hunger in the region.

In the weeks leading up to the event, local arts and community groups and schools – as well as the general public – help support the event by making and donating handmade clay bowls for the event.

This month, Union Project is providing two such bowlmaking opportunities.

Union Project invites you to Throw Down – A bowl-making party to support the Empty Bowls Dinner. Throw Down is a hands-on event and will be held in their ceramics studio at 801 N. Negley Avenue. Attendees will make bowls (both handbuilding and throwing) on Sunday, February 1st from 1 pm to 4 pm, and then will glaze those bowls the following Sunday, February 8th. You can come to one or both sessions.

Community members of all skill levels and experience are welcome to come out and throw, hand build, or decorate a bowl for a great cause! Union Project will have clay, pottery wheels, and plenty of work space available and some of their ceramics co-op members will be on hand to help out. All the bowls created during Throw Down will be fired and finished at Union Project and then donated to Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and Just Harvest for the Empty Bowls fundraiser on March 29, 2015.
