Letter: Cities have paved the way on social, economic justice

We were surprised by your recent editorial’s limited view of the city considering legislation to guarantee paid sick days, which you assert are “a perk, not a right” because they are not called for by the federal or state government (“Not the City’s Call: Employers Should Decide Their Sick-Leave Policies,” July 15).

This nation has a rich history of municipal governments taking the lead on issues of social and economic justice, paving the way for progressive change at a state and/​or national level: gay marriage, raising the minimum wage and — in Philadelphia and other cities across the United States — paid sick leave, to name just a few current examples….
