Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps

Just Harvest has an opening for an ASummer Food Service Programssociate VISTA member to work with us this summer! We are seeking a dedicated and self-motivated individual to serve for 8 weeks in promoting and supporting the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) starting this June.

The position responsibilities are as follows:

  • Conduct community outreach to improve awareness of SFSP sites – the efforts will be focused on both expanding participation at existing sites.This outreach will take place at the grassroots level and will be largely neighborhood-specific as part of our joint SFSP expansion initiative with the City of Pittsburgh
  • Work with local SFSP sponsors to develop new sites in underserved neighborhoods.
  • Monitor participation at SFSP sites and work with our partners on strategies to improve on-site program activities.
  • Assist with volunteer recruit and training at SFSP sites.

Time Commitment:  This is an eight-week, full-time position beginning June 9, 2015. – August 3, 2015. You are expected to be available for the needs of your community and project at all times, including days, nights and weekends. Because AmeriCorps VISTA service requires a full immersion in the project and community, any additional full or part-time employment is strictly prohibited – no exceptions – as well as adhere to some political and religious constraints.

Housing: You are responsible for finding your own housing. No housing allowance will be provided.

What is the Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps?

The Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps (AHOC) is an AmeriCorps VISTA project, sponsored by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Wal-Mart Foundation, and managed by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. The VISTA members work in both rural and urban areas across the country as part of a public-private partnership to improve access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps) for Americans in need. Read more here.
