On Monday, December 21st, City Council made an unprecedented unanimous vote to increase funding for the annual Hunger Fund to $439,800. Last year’s allocation to the Hunger Fund was $392,650, making this a great victory for the both the community and the four anti-hunger groups requesting the increase.
Just Harvest, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc., and Hunger Services at the Urban League, joined by their members and supporters, spoke out at the City Budget Hearing at the end of November and demanded an increase to the Hunger Fund—the amount was met by City Council to the dollar.
